TAKE LESSONS FROM DALE MORRIS

Champion fiddler Dale Morris loves to teach fiddle, guitar and mandolin to people of all ages, from toddlers to senior citizens.

Dale invites you to take lessons at his studio in Boyd, Texas (seven miles south of Decatur). All lessons are taught individually and consist of weekly half hour sessions.

Lessons are tailored to each individual's needs, interests, age, and experience level. Students are taught to play by ear, read tablature or sheet music.

If you are interested in taking lessons, please call or email Dale for pricing and session availability.

Please include the instrument and style of music you are interested in learning to play, your skill level, as well as your address and phone number.

For distance learning, telephone lessons are also available.

A note from Dale:

TELEPHONE LESSONS?

Actually, the mother of a student of mine from Alaska came up with the idea.
She deserves full credit.

Obviously, Alaska is quite a distance from Texas and just about the only lessons that her son gets is whenever they should come to Texas on vacation whenever I teach in Washington State where they are visiting relatives. The bottom line is that lessons are FEW and FAR BETWEEN!!!

She called one night to ask if I'd consider trying to teach him by "speakerphone." I was very skeptical at first. How could it possibly work? How expensive would a one hour long distance call cost?

Would I be able to teach, not being able to "see the student" or the "student see me"? It DID WORK! In fact, I would never have dreamed how well. Upon doing the first of these lessons I realized the following:

• I did not have to see the student. I could tell by listening where problems existed. By having taught so many privately, I also knew how to fix these problems, i.e., an out-of-tune note. I would know what was causing him to play this note wrong and tell him how to fix it over the phone!

• Being less distracted by visual things certainly caused me to listen more closely.

If you are interested in learning this way, give me a call (940-433-5741) or drop me an e-mail.
